| These buses may look like they are the oldest buses around in Singapore, but they are not any much older than their better-looking Mercedes-Benz 0405 counterparts.
Bodied by Fuji Heavy Industries, the 50 units of Japanese buses were introduced in 1993, with 6 of them registered under TIBS (TIB362M to TIB377X) and the remaining (CSS178K to CSS187J, CSS188G to CSS211Y) given to its subsidiary Singapore Shuttle Bus Pte Ltd who ran the City Shuttle Services. Following acquisition by SMRT and the subsequent withdrawal of CSS routes, some were withdrawn from service while the remaining were transferred over to SMRT Buses, with some retaining their registration plate numbers and others re-registered into the TIB series. Strong disapproval from the public towards these buses (which ironically feature one of the best airconditioning and most comfortable seats around), forced their early retirement in 2008/2009. Except for just a handful such as TIB1252R, the other units have never received any major refurbishment works unlike buses of other models in the fleet.
