| The Mercedes Benz 0405 buses fitted with Hispano Carrocera bodywork forms the bulk of the SMRT Buses, then TIBS, fleet of 12-metre buses, with the first batch of 200 airconditioned ones to enter service in 1994. An additional batch of 73 units, this time non-airconditioned ones, entered service in 1996. They were later converted into airconditioned buses with airconditioning units fitted on the roofs, following TIBS' efforts to realise a full fleet of airconditioned buses. This was followed by another batch of 35 airconditioned Hispano buses later that year.
Yet another batch of 15 airconditioned units were brought in by TIBS in 1998. However, this time round, they were fitted with a modified Volgren CR221L bodywork which was on trial on Hino H3KRKA TIB905Y earlier. Registration plate numbers: TIB425R to TIB561E (Hispano, aircon) - 137 units TIB572Z to TIB634D (Hispano, aircon) - 63 units TIB725A to TIB797S (Hispano, non-aircon) - 73 units TIB798P to TIB832Z (Hispano, aircon) - 35 units TIB958U to TIB972C (Volgren, aircon) - 15 units The Mercedes Benz 0405 buses are based at SMRT Ang Mo Kio, Kranji and Woodlands Depots. |
